About Kanyon Outdoor

Spotter (noun): someone trained to look for someone or something.
You know about train spotters, plane spotters and storm spotters but have you ever heard of shoe spotters?
That’s what we are. And here’s why:

We’re a British company based in Northamptonshire and the most experienced of us has been in shoe making for over 50 years (that’s not a misprint). We’ve made shoes, bought shoes and sold shoes all over the world, well on at least 5 continents if that counts.

Despite our years of making and selling shoes, to a man we still get the same feeling when we see a pair of shoes that we’ve sold being worn around town or in a field – initially the pleasant sense of acknowledgement that it is definitely a pair of shoes we’ve made; next, a critical appraisal for how the shoes are wearing; then, a momentary sense of satisfaction that propose is served and the customer is happy; and finally, as the shoes pass you by and out of your life again, we wish them good luck in their journey. It’s an emotional moment!

And yet, down the years, we’ve only made shoes for other companies to sell, never made shoes under our own brand. Until 2010, that is. Kanyon is a footwear brand in the waterproof and outdoor shoe market. Among many fine qualities, we value most highly our shoe making knowledge; value for money products; and, the integrity of a company that is driven by customer service.

1) Shoe making knowledge and technology – from traditional, hand stitched Goodyear welted through direct vulcanised rubber to modern day cemented and PU injection constructions, we’ve made it and sold it all. We know just about everything there is to know about aglets, eyelets, toe puffs, counter stiffeners, insole boards, vamps, quarters, lasts and any other part of a shoe or shoe factory you could care to mention.

We know the provenance of our shoes. We are shoe makers and we are selling shoes that we have designed and made for our customers to wear. The quality of our shoes is directly linked to our reputation, which is a very strong incentive to look after the details – the leather quality and thickness, the wear characteristics of the shoes and their comfort.

In addition, we know a thing or two about waterproofing shoes and have had the K-Dry waterproof membrane developed for us to make sure that our customers experience breathable comfort for all day waterproof wear.

2) Value for money. An oft quoted benefit, here’s why it’s true about our company.

The economics of shoe making mean that, by the time the shoes you are wearing now have reached your feet, they have normally passed through several pairs of hands. Even the biggest retail chains on the high street will ordinarily have purchased the shoes on their shelves from at least one other company in Europe, let alone a smaller shop, which may have passed through several. One aspect of our value proposition is that we have cut across the buying chain and simplified it to simply us, which saves you money.

As well as taking links out of the chain, we also believe in the relative worth of our product - we know how to make shoes that are really pretty good. We are happy to compare ours against any similar shoes and would stand behind the quality of our brand. On a like for like price; we are at least as good value as competing products.

3) We are a real company, with real people and a real desire for delivering customer satisfaction. Now, we’re not claiming that we are the only company that values customer satisfaction but we do place the highest value on winning loyal customers through our reputation for good service and honesty as well as desirable products.

What we are definitely not is yet another faceless website operating in the breathless, competitive environment of selling the international shoe brands that populate the high street.
